Post a Deal on the Product Hunt Marketplace for Your Saas

by Maxwell Davis

Product Hunt has recently launched it’s deal marketplace. As part of that it seems to be revamping the way it engages with makers and SaaS businesses by integrating Products launched on Product Hunt with deals offered to makers.

Steps to Get Your Deal on the Product Hunt Marketplace

It looks as though there are only a few steps to posting a deal on the marketplace:

  1. Login to your Product Hunt Account
  2. Go to the Marketplace and use the dropdown provided and select one of the Products that you are the maker for.
  3. Create a “New Deal”
  4. Fill out the details and click the “pay to Launch” option. The Product Details will come from your Product Hub page so make sure that’s up to date.
  5. Payment is done via Stripe

Is it Worth It to Pay for the Fee?

You have to pay $1,000 a month to post a deal on the Product Hunt Marketplace- which may be too expensive for many. But remember the Product Hunt site gets 6 Million visitors a month and it’s a nice targeted niche.

You’ll have to make a call as to whether you can generate enough revenue in terms of conversion from the visitors you might receive otherwise there is the affiliate option which I think might be better for most.

Smaller Makers Could Benefit from an Affiliate Deal with Product Hunt Instead

The $1,000 will be off-putting for many, as it’s a much higher fee when compared to other paid opportunities like ads, newsletter sponsorships etc. In addition as the marketplace gets more popular over time (I’m assuming it will) they’ll also be a dilution – i.e. it’ll be harder to find products over time as there are just more on the platform. So you may be thinking why should I bother to post a deal on the Product Hunt Marketplace?

Here’s why….. Product Hunt seems to be leaving the door open to an affiliate partnership. This is where they’d take a cut of the fee the customer is paying for the product. That’ll either be in a flat one-time payment or a portion of the subscription cost – which would be up to you. Amusingly it looks as though Product Hunt is recommending using Partnerstack which I assume they are an affiliate for! I couldn’t find any information on the fees charged by Partnerstack but be aware you’ll have to either give them an upfront fee or again a portion of the fees paid by the end customer.

The main value of using the affiliate program on the Product Hunt site is that it’s a big platform with plenty of visitors hungry for finding new products and deals. There aren’t too many details just an email address which can be found here, as well as the how to post:
